References live inside Atlas/

Context and Problem Statement

“References” (your own how-tos, checklists, specs) needed a home distinct from “Sources” (lit notes about external work). Question: top-level or nested under Atlas/.

Considered Options

  • Atlas/References/ (nested under thinking-mode folder).
  • Top-level References/.
  • Top-level Resources/ (PARA term).

Decision Outcome

Chosen option: “Atlas/References/”, because reference lookups are a thinking-mode action; nesting under Atlas reflects that. Single mode-based top-level structure (Atlas/Chronicles/Praxis) is more coherent than mixing modes with content-type folders. Devices further nest as Atlas/References/Devices/ (see 0011-devices-nested-under-atlas-references).

Pros and Cons of the Options

Atlas/References/

  • Good, because consistent with mode-based top-level structure.
  • Good, because reference lookups belong in thinking mode.

Top-level References/

  • Bad, because creates parallel mode-vs-content-type ambiguity.

Top-level Resources/

  • Bad, because “References” preferred for academic precision over PARA’s term.
