Prime Visa Credit Card
Card vs. network tier — why the Guide to Benefits says "Visa Signature"
Three nested things carry “Visa Signature” in their name:
- The card — “Prime Visa” is the specific product (its own rewards, Amazon perks, and Prime linkage). Formerly branded Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card.
- The network tier — Visa Signature is Visa’s upper consumer tier (above Visa Traditional/Platinum). The Prime Visa is issued on this tier.
- The benefits package — Chase buys an insurance package (from Virginia Surety) and attaches it to its Visa Signature cards, then serves the Guide to Benefits by tier, not by card name — which is why BGC11359 is titled “Visa Signature® and Visa Platinum,” not “Prime Visa.”
So: Prime Visa → issued on the Visa Signature tier → receives the Chase Visa Signature Guide to Benefits (BGC11359). Same three-layer split as the Chase Aeroplan Credit Card (which sits on Mastercard World Elite). The insurance layer is tier-shared; what makes it this card is the rewards agreement (1) and Amazon perks (2).
Core Value Proposition
The Prime Visa (US) is a cobranded Amazon cash-back card issued as a Visa Signature, with no annual card fee — but it requires an active Amazon Prime membership ($139/yr) to earn its headline rate and to hold the “Prime” version at all.3 Its whole reason to exist is the unlimited 5% back at Amazon, Whole Foods, and on Chase Travel for Prime members; drop Prime and those categories fall to 3% (and you may be moved to the non-Prime Amazon Visa).32
Rewards accrue as Amazon Rewards points (1¢ each), not Chase Ultimate Rewards — no airline/hotel transfer partners, redeemable at Amazon checkout, as statement credit, or for gift cards/travel at Chase.com.2 It’s a spend-category tool, not a travel or points-transfer card; the right framing is a no-fee Amazon companion to a transferable-points card, not a standalone.
Earning
| Category | Rate (Prime) | Rate (no Prime) |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon.com, Amazon Fresh, Audible, Whole Foods, participating Amazon stores | 5% | 3% |
| Chase Travel (prepaid, via chasetravel.com) | 5% | 3% |
| Gas stations, restaurants, local transit & commuting (incl. rideshare) | 2% | 2% |
| Everything else | 1% | 1% |
| Rotating Amazon promos (Prime members) | 10%+ | — |
Uncapped in all categories.32 ”% back” is tracked as points at 100 points per $1 of rewards.2 Prime cardmembers also get 10% back or more on a rotating selection of Amazon items/categories during promo windows (the quoted figure includes the base 5%).2
Earning exclusions & program terms
5% Chase Travel applies only to prepaid bookings on chasetravel.com (or the number on the back of the card) — airfare, hotels, car rentals, cruises. Travel booked direct with the supplier does not earn the bonus rate (falls to 1%), and any portion paid with points doesn’t qualify.2 Whole Foods excludes certain third-party vendors, gift cards bought via buyatab, event tickets/classes, massage, and Spa@Ink.2
Standard non-qualifying transactions (no points): Amazon purchases put on a promotional-financing / Equal Pay offer, balance transfers, cash advances and cash-like transactions (including cryptocurrency and person-to-person / account-funding transfers), wagering, account checks, interest, and fees.1 Points don’t expire while the account is open.1 The Prime-tier 5% and the “Prime Visa” product itself both require active Prime; cancel Prime and Amazon earning drops to 3% and Chase may move you to the Amazon Visa.3
Account-linking trap (5% vs 3%). The RPA calls the two structures 5-2-1 (with Prime) and 3-2-1 (without).1 Earning 5% isn’t automatic if you juggle Amazon accounts: the card must be loaded into, and selected on, the specific Amazon account that holds the eligible Prime membership. Switching Amazon accounts, loading the card on multiple accounts, or having the Prime account go un-selected drops you to 3% until you re-confirm the card under “Manage Payment Options.” If a second Prime Visa is approved and loaded on the same Amazon account, that new card takes over the 5%.1
Losing points. Points are immediately forfeited if the account is closed for misuse, fraud, bankruptcy/inability to pay, or breach of another Chase agreement.1 If the account is closed for any other reason, you keep 30 days to use them. On notice of death, points are auto-redeemed to a statement credit (not lost). Before redemption, points aren’t property and can’t pass by inheritance, bankruptcy, or divorce; manufactured spend and churning accounts to generate rewards are named misuse.1 Governing law is Delaware; program participation may generate a 1099-MISC or 1042-S, and you’re liable for any tax — relevant given the cross-border US/Canada picture.1

Protection benefits (Visa Signature Guide)
Provided under the Chase Visa Signature Guide to Benefits (BGC11359, effective 10/01/24), underwritten by Virginia Surety Company (an Assurant company).6 Coverage is secondary and requires charging all or part of the eligible purchase / common-carrier fare to the card (or paying with redeemable rewards).
The important structural point vs. the Chase Aeroplan Credit Card: the Prime Visa has NO trip cancellation/interruption and NO trip delay cover. In exchange it adds Extended Warranty, Lost Luggage, and Travel Accident, which the Aeroplan lacks. So for trip-disruption protection the Aeroplan is stronger; for stuff you buy and check the Prime Visa is broader.

Purchase protection & extended warranty (the shopping pair)
Purchase protection covers a new purchase against theft, damage, or “involuntary and accidental parting” for 120 days (90 for NY residents), up to 50,000/account; secondary to homeowner’s/renter’s/other insurance.7 Excludes lost or “mysteriously disappeared” items, motorized vehicles, computer software, consumables, and items in a common carrier’s care (a lost shipped package is a carrier claim first).7
Extended warranty adds one year onto a U.S. manufacturer’s warranty of three years or less (Aeroplan/Sapphire-style cards use a 5-year threshold — this one is tighter), up to 50,000/account; no coverage if cumulative warranties already exceed 3 years, and total coverage never exceeds 4 years from purchase.8 The pairing is the card’s real everyday value: since you’re already buying electronics/appliances on Amazon at 5%, both protections attach automatically. Both file at chasecardbenefits.com; notify within 90 days, docs within 120.78
Baggage, luggage & rental (quick reference)
Unlike the Aeroplan card, the Prime Visa carries both baggage benefits. Baggage delay: essentials at 3,000/traveler/trip (NY: 10,000 all travelers) for checked or carry-on baggage lost/damaged/stolen by the carrier, with $500 sub-limits each for jewelry/watches and cameras/electronics; excludes documents, money, tickets, furs.10 Both require charging the common-carrier fare to the card and reporting to the carrier; notify within 20 days, docs within 90.910
Auto rental CDW is secondary in the US (primary abroad, or when renting for business / with no personal auto policy): decline the counter CDW, charge the full rental to the card; covers theft and collision up to **125k) and antique vehicles, most vans and trucks, and certain countries. Notify within 100 days, docs within 365.11
Travel accident & emergency assistance
Travel accident insurance pays AD&D for a covered loss on a trip: up to 500,000 (common-carrier — riding/boarding/exiting the carrier whose fare was charged to the card).12 Travel & emergency assistance is referral/coordination only — medical/legal referrals, emergency transport arrangements, translation, lost-ticket help — but you pay all actual costs; it does not reimburse.14
What this card is not
- Not a travel-rewards or transfer card — Amazon Rewards points have no airline/hotel partners and are worth a flat 1¢; for transferable value use a Sapphire or the Chase Aeroplan Credit Card.2
- Not a financing tool — a carried balance at the standard APR erases the 5% quickly; the Equal Monthly Payments / promotional-financing option forfeits rewards on that purchase.25
- Not trip-disruption cover — no trip cancellation/interruption or trip delay; book cancellable travel on a card that has them.6

Amazon Rewards Program Agreement (RPA0441_0510, dated 01/09/2026) — the authoritative rewards contract for the Prime Visa / Amazon Visa (issued by JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A.; program offered jointly by Amazon and Chase). Defines the 5-2-1 (Prime) and 3-2-1 (non-Prime) earning structures: 5%/3% at Amazon.com, Whole Foods, participating Amazon sites/stores, and via Chase Travel; 2% gas/local transit & commuting/restaurants; 1% else. % back = points at 100 per $1; each point = 1¢ on redemption. 5%/3% excludes Amazon Pay third-party purchases, international Amazon sites and Whole Foods, WFM via Instacart/Shipt/etc., WFM gift cards/event tickets/massage/Spa@Ink, and Chase Travel bookings made via FROSCH or direct with suppliers. Non-qualifying transactions: promo-financing Amazon purchases, balance transfers, cash advances, cash-like items incl. cryptocurrency and P2P/account-funding transfers, wagering, account checks, interest, fees. 5% requires the card to be loaded into and selected on the Prime-eligible Amazon account; juggling accounts or a newer Prime Visa on the same account can drop earning to 3%. Points don’t expire while open; immediate forfeiture on closure for misuse/fraud/bankruptcy/failure to pay/breach of another Chase agreement; 30-day grace on other closures; on death, points auto-redeem to a statement credit. Named misuse includes manufactured spend and repeatedly opening/maintaining accounts to generate rewards. Points aren’t property (no inheritance/bankruptcy/divorce transfer).
