Summary
TJX Canada is the Canadian division of TJX Companies, the US off-price retail conglomerate. Operates three banners: Winners, HomeSense, and Marshalls. Off-price model = overstock, discontinued, and end-of-season branded goods sold below department-store prices. Inventory varies by store and is not catalogued online.
The Three Banners
- Winners — original Canadian off-price chain (apparel, footwear, accessories, some home). Acquired by TJX in 1990. Canadian equivalent of T.J. Maxx (T.J. Maxx doesn’t operate under that name in Canada).
- HomeSense — home goods and décor. Launched in Canada 2001; introduced the off-price home-fashions concept to Canada. Equivalent to US HomeGoods.
- Marshalls — apparel + home; newest of the three in Canada.
Store Formats
- Standalone, or superstore/megastore format pairing a HomeSense with a Winners or Marshalls under one roof.
- Brampton/GTA has several combined Winners/HomeSense megastores.
Why It Matters (Sourcing Implications)
- Carries licensed/discontinued branded merchandise — e.g. licensed Isaac Mizrahi home goods (see Isaac Mizrahi).
- Not searchable online — no per-SKU web catalogue; styles vary store to store. This is why you can’t confirm a specific item is in stock without visiting or calling the location.
- Identifying a TJX purchase from a tag: TJX price tags show a “Compare At” price alongside the actual price, plus a store-section/department code.
Relation to US Operations
- US sibling banners: T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, HomeSense (US), Sierra.
- Parent: TJX Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TJX).
