Medo NYC Hotel Recommendation

Medo messaged this morning asking what I thought of a Booking.com listing for his NY trip (Jul 24–26, 2 adults): “The Harrison” — which turned out to be an apartment-style property at 12 North 3rd Street in Harrison, NJ, not NYC. ~$224 total for 2 nights, 9.8/10 on Booking but from only 5 reviews. Near Red Bull Arena and the Harrison PATH station.

My take

  • Not bad on value, but the commute is the catch: ~35–40 min PATH ride to WTC each way, and Harrison is dead quiet at night.
  • Better play: same Newark–WTC PATH line but at Exchange Place in Jersey City — 10 min to WTC, 24/7 service, actual neighborhood with restaurants and skyline views.
  • Recommended Hyatt House and Hyatt Regency at Exchange Place; Regency is pricier but has the skyline views depending on room.

PATH context (relevant for his Fri/Sat nights)

  • Newark–WTC line runs 24/7 (serves both Harrison and Exchange Place).
  • As of May 2026: Friday late-night service improved to every 20 min (11:30 PM–2 AM), up from every 40 min.
  • Saturday overnight still sparse (~30–40 min headways) — another reason Exchange Place’s 10-min hop beats Harrison’s 35-min ride.

What I sent him (WhatsApp)

  1. Flagged the commute issue with the Harrison listing (not near enough to the action, PATH-dependent).
  2. Recommended looking at hotels near Exchange Place; named Hyatt House + Hyatt Regency, noted Regency = pricier but NYC skyline views.
  3. Sent a Google Hotels price-comparison link and a Google Maps public-transport comparison (Exchange Place → Manhattan: 35 min door-to-door via PATH + R/W, vs 42 min driving).
