Tailor visits (evening):
-
Rajawongse Clothier — 130 Sukhumvit Road. Contact: Anandvir (sp?). Well-known Bangkok bespoke tailor. Looking at a suit for Jyot’s wedding reception. Fabrics examined:
- Cavani VR 0909 06 — Italian textile house (Murano Collezione), lightweight wool, mid-range tier
- Vitaliano Luxury — tropical blend (wool + silk + cotton), good for hot weather, subtle sheen from silk
- Shade 13 dark green — swatch code, brand/mill unknown (need to confirm with tailor)
- Recommendation: VBC Super 110s–120s if available, or Vitaliano blend for tropical wedding setting
- Pricing: 3-piece VBC suit with 3 fittings — going rate THB 35,000, negotiated down to THB 30,000
-
Majestic Tailors — 18/10/1 Sukhumvit Road South Nana. Contact: Kevin (Managing Director), WhatsApp +6681 755 6427, majestictailors1962@gmail.com
- Pricing: 3-piece VBC suit — quoted THB 45,000, lowest possible THB 32,500
Decision: Did not order from either place. Jyot contacted his tailor in India to compare — awaiting response. Jyot’s hesitation: ~1,750 CAD back home for full bespoke. The $500 savings didn’t feel worth it to him given it’s custom (not true bespoke) in Bangkok. Pending India tailor quote before deciding.
Wedding attire discussion (May 19): Spoke with Jyot about what to wear to his wedding reception. Decided:
- Aman to wear his sport blazer — Jyot approved the look
- Shirt: button-down with black buttons (tuxedo-style shirt)
- Pants: silk pants from Aman’s mum (Jyot vetoed the black Docker pants but liked the silk ones)
- No Bangkok tailor suit needed for the reception
Dress shirts for dads: Jyot will connect Aman with his tailor (India-based) to get dress shirts made for both dads (Aman’s dad + Jyot’s dad). Jyot’s tailor already has his dad’s measurements on file — just need Aman’s dad’s sizing. See Wedding Attire & Dress Shirts project.
2026-05-16 - TDA submitted; Wise setup in progress
Admin day — knocked out remaining pre-departure logistics.
- Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDA) submitted at 07:05 Thailand time (May 16). Confirmation received from tdacservices.immigration.go.th with PDF attached.
- Wise account: Funded successfully (money added to account), but ID verification still pending — got a “Please upload new photos of your ID” request same day. Need to resolve before departure.
- eSIM: Extended existing US Mobile eSIM with 5GB international data add-on for $30. Done.
- Lost luggage card: Already had one prepared. Done.
- Currency exchange strategy: Using Wise for THB once verification clears. Still deciding between Aeroplan, Chase, and Amex Business for card spend in-country.
Hyatt Regency upgrade decision: Received pre-arrival email from Pang (Chotika Taweechokanan, Reservations Sales Associate) offering two upgrades:
- Deluxe Corner Room (45sqm): THB 1,500++/room/night (~$50 USD/night)
- Regency Club Lounge (27F): THB 1,000++/person/night (~$33 USD/person/night)
Researched Soi 11 drink prices for comparison — beers 80-140 THB, cocktails 200-500 THB at mid-range bars. Breakfast already included with our room, so lounge’s main value is evening happy hour (house wine, beer, canapes 5:30-7:30pm), all-day refreshments, afternoon appetizers, and private check-in. Discussed with Jyot — agreed to go with the lounge. Replied to Pang accepting Regency Club Lounge access for both guests for the full stay.
Hilton Pattaya upgrade offers received: Pre-arrival upgrade page for May 22 reservation. Currently booked: Twin Hilton Executive - Ocean View (495 sq ft/46sqm). Options:
- King Hilton Executive - Ocean Front (495 sq ft/46sqm): 450 THB/night (was 500, save 50) — “Best Match”
- King Hilton Executive - Premium Ocean Front (699 sq ft/65sqm): 2,090 THB/night (was 2,200, save 110) — “Best Deal”
- Edge Lunch Buffet: 553 THB/person
- Edge Seafood Friday Lunch: 638 THB/person
- eforea Spa - Aromatherapy Massage (60min): 2,124 THB for entire stay
Researched each option in detail. Ocean Front upgrade is cheap (58/night, 65sqm corner room) is nice but overkill for a trip spent mostly outside. Spa massage at 2,124 THB is at the low end of luxury hotel spa pricing (street massages run 250–400 THB, mid-range spas 600–1,200 THB). Edge lunch buffets are only marginally above walk-in pricing (553 vs 520 THB weekday, 638 vs 580 THB seafood Friday) — not much of a deal.
⚠️ Bed issue: Both room upgrade options are King bed only, not twin. Current booking is Twin Executive. Would need to confirm with Hilton whether twin configuration is available in Ocean Front category before requesting. Decision on hold pending this.
Transport research — Bangkok → Pattaya (May 22):
- Bolt/Grab (recommended): ~1,000–2,000 THB total for both, ~2 hours door-to-door. Bolt typically 20–30% cheaper than Grab on this route.
- Private transfer: 1,200–1,725 THB, fixed price, no surge. Good Friday fallback.
- Bus from Ekkamai: cheapest (~400–500 THB total with last-mile taxi) but hassle with luggage, 2.5–3.5 hours.
- Train: skip (only leaves before 7am, no A/C, 3rd class).
- ⚠️ Timing: Hyatt checkout noon, Hilton check-in 3pm. Friday midday traffic on Motorway 7 can add 30–60 min. Leave before 10am or after 2pm to avoid worst window.
Transport research — Pattaya → Koh Samui (May 26):
- Bangkok Airways UTP → USM (recommended): Direct flight, 1 hour 5 min. Only airline serving Samui. Departs ~5:20pm daily from U-Tapao airport (~45 min south of central Pattaya). One-way
£58/150 for both). Only 1 flight/day — book soon. - Flying via Bangkok (BKK): cheaper per ticket ($70–140) but adds 2+ hours getting back to Bangkok plus airport buffer. Total 5–6 hours door-to-door.
- Bus + ferry: $30–65/person but 15–20 hours. Not viable for a bachelor trip.
- Proposed timeline: checkout Hilton noon → Bolt to U-Tapao (~12:45pm) → 5:20pm flight → 6:25pm land Samui → taxi to Centara Reserve by ~7pm.
Transport research — Koh Phangan → Bangkok (Jun 2):
- Step 1 — Ferry: Lomlahkkhirin 08:00 from Thongsala Pier → arrives Koh Samui Airport (USM) ~09:30 (includes pier-to-airport transfer). ~300–500 THB/person. Alternative: Lomprayah catamaran 08:00→08:30 to Nathon Pier (350 THB) + taxi to USM (~20 min, ~300 THB).
- Step 2 — Flight: Bangkok Airways USM → BKK (Suvarnabhumi). ~36 flights/day, departures every ~hour from 07:00 to 21:30. Target a midday departure (11:00–13:00) to allow buffer after 09:30 ferry arrival. Flight time: 1hr 15min. Price: ~$75–87/person.
- Total door-to-door: ~6–7 hours. ~$85–100/person.
- Need to arrive Bangkok by afternoon/evening — Jun 3 departure flight is 7:05am from BKK, so need hotel near Suvarnabhumi the night of Jun 2.
Open:
- Resolve Wise ID verification (re-upload photos)
- Decide primary credit card for Thailand spend
- Book Bangkok departure hotel (Jun 2–3) — near Suvarnabhumi Airport
- Confirm twin bed availability for Hilton Ocean Front upgrade
- Book Bangkok Airways UTP → USM for May 26 — done 2026-05-19, PG 294 17:20→18:25, Ref FYADNC
- Book Bangkok Airways USM → BKK for Jun 2 — done 2026-05-19, PG 142 13:50→15:05, Ref FYADNC
- Book Lomlahkkhirin ferry Koh Phangan → USM for Jun 2, 08:00
2026-05-14 - Koh Samui booked; packing list finalized
Evening session (with Claude). Finalized the Koh Samui hotel after extensive research across 13 properties over multiple sessions.
Koh Samui research recap: Evaluated Buri Rasa Village (adults-only, #1 for nightlife walkability), SALA Samui Chaweng Oceanfront Wing (#2 for quality + location balance), The Library (#3, iconic design, blood-red pool), Centara Reserve (#4, genuine perks but inflated reviews), Vana Belle (#5, luxury pick if Bonvoy status applies). Also considered and eliminated: SALA Choengmon (too far from nightlife), Four Seasons (wrong side of island, $1,700+/night), Hyatt Regency (family-heavy, not secluded despite marketing), Ritz-Carlton (4.4⭐, artificial beach), Melia (family resort), Chaweng Regent (aging), Sareeraya (road noise, low rating), Nora Buri (insect report).
Decision: Centara Reserve Samui. The free daily minibar (gin, vodka, whiskey, 2 beers) and included breakfast tipped the value equation over Buri Rasa, which would have required paying for drinks and breakfast separately. Reserve Hosts service and the colonial redesign sealed it.
- Booked Koh Samui: Centara Reserve Samui. Check-in Mon May 26, check-out Thu May 29. 3 nights. Reserve Ocean Twin (60sqm, ocean view, twin beds, balcony, bathtub + rain shower, high ceilings). Direct booking via Centara. Confirmation 34985SG250568.
- Total: 47,621.44 THB (~457 USD per night). Paid via Red Dot Payment.
- Forwarded payment receipt to Jyot immediately.
- Pre-arrival email received from Centara offering airport transfers, spa bookings, and dining reservations. Contact: crs@chr.co.th / +66 (0) 77 230 500.

2026-05-11 - Bangkok hotel research; Hyatt Regency booked
Solo research session (with Claude). Compared booking platforms and Bangkok hotels for the May 18–22 leg.
- Researched Bangkok hotel platforms again — Agoda remains best for price, Booking.com for flexibility. Google Travel link from Jyot was anchored to Marriott Bonvoy properties, so expanded the search independently.
- Evaluated Marriott Bonvoy options (JW, Marquis Queen’s Park, Surawongse, W Bangkok) then recentered on nightlife-forward picks. Key zones: Soi 11 / Lower Sukhumvit for nightlife core, Thonglor/Ekkamai for the hipper local scene.
- Shortlisted Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit vs Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit — both on Soi 13, practically neighbors.
- Sofitel strengths: Belga rooftop bar (32F, open until 1am), acclaimed breakfast, ~$30–50/night cheaper, more established.
- Hyatt strengths: newer (2018), direct covered sky bridge to BTS Nana (no heat/traffic), Spectrum Lounge & Bar (31F) is a real nightlife destination, weekend pool parties on 8F infinity pool, stronger staff sentiment in reviews.
- Picked Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit. Booked today.
- Booked Bangkok (arrival): Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit, 1 Sukhumvit Soi 13 (BTS Nana). Check-in Mon May 18 (3pm, early check-in requested), check-out Fri May 22 (12pm). 4 nights. Twin Beds City View, 35–37sqm, shower + bathtub, 55” TV. World of Hyatt member rate. Confirmation 40023B17310422.
- Nightly rate: 5,557.50 THB (May 18–20) / 5,814.00 THB (May 21) + 10% service charge + 7.7% VAT.
- ⚠️ NON-REFUNDABLE / NO CHANGES — full prepayment at time of booking. Same card required at check-in.
- Simi confirmed not going. Trip is Jyot and me only.
- Still unbooked: Pattaya (May 22–26), Koh Samui (May 25–29), Bangkok departure (Jun 2–3).
Pattaya hotel research (same session): Evaluated 6 hotels across Central Pattaya, North Pattaya, and Jomtien. Jyot suggested Balihai Bay and D Varee Jomtien (“Javaree”) — both flagged and passed on. Balihai Bay had documented staff discrimination issues toward South Asian guests, an undisclosed 2,000 THB deposit, and a sewage-adjacent pool. D Varee is a decent hotel but in Jomtien — 25 min drive from Walking Street, wrong for a nightlife trip. Also evaluated Cape Dara (North Pattaya, beautiful but 15-min drive from nightlife), Hard Rock (beachfront, 10-min walk to Walking Street), Avani (8-min walk to Walking Street, 650sqm pool, direct beach access — narrowly edged into #1 on location). Settled on Hilton Pattaya for executive lounge access (33F, evening cocktails 5:30–7:30pm, ocean views, private balcony hot tub) and strong ratings (4.6⭐ / 16,488 reviews).
- Booked Pattaya: Hilton Pattaya, 333/101 Moo 9, Nong Prue, Banglamung. Check-in Fri May 22 (3pm), check-out Tue May 26 (12pm). 4 nights. Twin Executive Ocean View (lounge access included). Confirmation #3469393958. Hilton Honors #2772678294.
- Nightly rates: 7,192.50 / 8,040.00 / 7,267.50 / 6,817.50 THB + 7.7% tax + 10% service charge. Total: 34,506.70 THB (~$1,000 USD).
- ⚠️ NON-REFUNDABLE / NO CHANGES — full prepayment charged at booking.
- Note: breakfast is a separate surcharge (~700 THB/person). Executive lounge covers all-day soft drinks/coffee, afternoon tea, and evening cocktails — breakfast not auto-included.
- Still unbooked: Koh Samui (May 26–29), Bangkok departure (Jun 2–3).
Koh Samui hotel research (same session): Evaluated 7 hotels across Chaweng, Choeng Mon, and North Chaweng for the May 26–29 leg (3 nights).
Jyot suggested Chaweng Regent (his top pick), Sareeraya, and Sala Samui. Expanded to also research Buri Rasa, Marasca, Nora Buri, and Hyatt Regency.
Key findings:
- Buri Rasa Village (4.8⭐ / 1,359) — adults-only since Nov 2025, boutique 32-room beachfront on Chaweng, breakfast included, beach bar with DJ, private dip pool rooms, 0.5km to Walking Street. Top pick for nightlife access.
- SALA Samui Choengmon (4.8⭐ / 1,549) — quieter Choeng Mon beach, 53/69 villas with private pools, extraordinary staff sentiment. Best pure quality; 15-min drive to Chaweng.
- Marasca Samui SLH (4.6⭐ / 471) — newest hotel, Cabanas Beach Club (Condé Nast Best Bar 2026), some plunge pool rooms. Airport noise in mornings, no gym, small breakfast room.
- Chaweng Regent (4.3⭐ / 1,662) — Jyot’s pick, best value on Chaweng beachfront, aging rooms, beach disappears at high tide.
- Nora Buri (4.5⭐ / 1,627) — hillside with great views, breakfast included, cheapest option, but showing age and a Jan 2026 insect infestation report.
- Hyatt Regency (4.5⭐ / 1,005) — NOT secluded (North Chaweng, 5-min drive to beach), family-heavy, ~$380–440/night. Skip.
- Sareeraya (4.0⭐ / 205) — road-facing rooms, disputed sizing, skip.
- Airbnb: Hillside pool villas ~$150–300/night total (both of us), panoramic sea views, private pool. No beach/breakfast, Grab required for everything at night.

2026-05-06 - Hotel research call with Jyot; Koh Phangan booked
iMessage back-and-forth to sync up, call started ~10:15 PM. Agenda was hotel booking for the remaining legs.
- Researched booking platforms for Thailand — compared Agoda, Booking.com, Expedia, Trip.com, KAYAK. Landed on Agoda as the go-to for Thailand: better inventory, 10–30% cheaper on average due to merchant model (pre-buys room blocks at wholesale). Booking.com better if flexibility / free cancellation matters.
- Key nuance: Agoda’s headline discount vs. Booking.com often shrinks to 3–7% on a like-for-like basis because Agoda defaults to non-refundable rates while Booking.com shows free-cancellation prices by default.
- Koh Phangan during Full Moon Party week (May 31) — prices triple near Haad Rin, minimum stays of 3–5 nights, best options sell out weeks out. Decided to book immediately.
- Booked Koh Phangan: Phangan Bayshore Resort, Haad Rin (141 Moo 6). Check-in May 29, check-out Jun 2 (4 nights). Deluxe Premium King, non-smoking, twin beds requested. Breakfast for 2 included. $1,323.01 USD total (35% limited offer applied). Agoda booking ID 1000239114. Paid in full on ••••3729.
- Confirmation came through at 12:20 AM May 7. Forwarded to Jyot immediately.
- ⚠️ Free cancellation window closes May 14 — noted.
- Bangkok (arrival + departure), Pattaya, and Koh Samui still unbooked. Next action.
2026-04-28 - Simi reconsiders, Jyot calls him
WhatsApp coordination day with Jyot and Simi.
- Simi messaged the group asking for the itinerary again. Reshared the Thailand Bachelor Party doc; he had also requested Drive access twice that evening.
- Simi said he’ll look at his work calendar to see if he can do a portion of the trip. Will let us know by Friday (2026-05-01).
- Separately, Jyot confirmed in our 1:1 chat that he’d just gotten off the phone with Simi. Suggested I call Simi this week to “do some sweet talking.”
- Closing tone (Jyot): “We gonna have a blast either way.”
- Action still open: I need to call Simi this week.
Update (2026-05-10): Simi is definitively not going. Trip is Jyot and I only.
2026-04-19 - Itinerary locked

- Full Moon Party confirmed Sun May 31.
- Cuts: Phuket / Krabi / Phi Phi (southwest monsoon, 250-300mm rain), Chiang Mai / Chiang Rai (logistics eats two travel days), Koh Tao as overnight (kept as Samui day trip for Nang Yuan snorkel).

2026-03-15 - Simi drops out
Call with Simi.
- His wife’s father passed away. He won’t be going to Thailand anymore.
- Suggested we should still go without him. Said he’d organize Jyot’s bachelor weekend at a cottage in June instead.
- Status revisited 2026-04-28: Simi reconsidering joining for at least part of the trip.
2026-03-08 - Sristi’s pushback
Group call with Jyot and Simi (7-9 PM).
- Simi’s daughter Sristi raised concerns about the trip given the family’s situation. Framed her objection as the trip being insensitive given their mom’s troubles.
- I floated the idea that this could be a culture / coping-style difference (individualistic vs. collectivist).
- Simi to discuss with his wife and Sristi, then come back to us before flights are booked.
2026-03-04 - Convinced Simi to commit
Group call with Jyot and Simi (8-10 PM).
- Convinced Simi to fly May 15-16 → Jun 2 to catch the Full Moon Party.
- Simi pushed to book flights immediately. I pushed for more research first. Mild tension but ended fine.
- Reconvene set for 2026-03-08.
2026-03-02 - Kickoff
WhatsApp call with Jyot and Simi to plan his bachelor trip.
- Locations considered: Brazil, Thailand, Colombia, Spain.
